The last trip to Arthurs Pass for our 2011 season should have been on the 21st of August. Unfortunately due to extreme weather conditions we had to postpone the trip until the 11th of September. Although the weather wasn't the best the trip went very well. Here are some wonderful photographs from the excursion.
On Saturday the 28th May 2011 Ja1275 hauled the Northlander train from Auckland to Whangarei. As per our plan a diesel was added to the front for the homeward journey in darkness.
On the 1st of May 2011 we operated the Kaipara Cannonball from Auckland to Helensville and return. This is always a popular train with family groups and this year was no exception with the train selling out 3 weeks in advance.
Photos from the 2010 steam tour of New Zealand. During the course of the tour we met many great people and had lots of fun. If you were unfortunate enough to miss out this year watch out for the 2011 tour.
The majority of photos were taken during the run pasts we had on the tour. For a live action run past see here. Or here.
During November and December 2010 Mainline Steam was the lead rail operator for the rail sequences of a movie involving the Tangiwai disaster. The photos in this album show the filming with the train in the Otaki area on the 5th of December. Ka942 had it streamlining removed and was renumbered 949. Steam Incorporated and the Feilding & Districts Rail Society provided the carriages. It was an excellent example of co-operation between all three organizations and Kiwi Rail.
On the 18th of October Mainline Steam's Ja1275 took part in the official re- opening of the Onehunga Branch for commuter service. The Ja and a MAXX Dc shuttled backwards and forward over the line giving free rides to the public. There is also a short video here and you can take a ride up the branch from Onehunga to Penrose here.
